Is a deposit required?
Yes. A 30% deposit is required at time of booking. We accept all major credit cards to reserve the date for your trip. However, the cost for the trip may be paid with either cash or major credit card. We do not accept checks.
What is your cancellation policy?
You must notify us with an official cancellation notice at least 21 days before your scheduled trip to receive your deposit back or to place your deposit on a different date. An official cancelation notice can be made through voice mail, e-mail or text message, however, you must receive a response back from Home Run Charters.
If you do not provide an official cancellation notice at least 21 days before your trip, your deposit will not be refunded.
If your scheduled trip is canceled due to weather conditions, we will refund your deposit or it can be used for a future date (up to one year).
If you do not show up on the day of your scheduled trip, you will be charged the full price of the trip. This is to cover the mate and captain fees.
What should I bring?
We recommend that all visitors bring the following items with them:
- Sunscreen
- Non-slip shoes with a white sole or non-marking sole
- Hat
- Sunglasses
- Zip-lock bags
- In the summer: rain jackets
- In the winter, foul-weather gear such as:
- Boots with non-marking sole
- Warm clothes
- Gloves
- Waterproof bibs and rain jacket
If you are not staying at the lodge, we recommend that you also bring food, drinks and snacks.
If you are coming from out of town, Home Run Charters offers a vacuum packing and shipping service to send your catch home for an additional charge.

What types of permits and licenses do I need?
You WILL need a three-day non-resident guide/charter fishing license that can be purchased for $10.00. For more information, please call the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at (888) 765-2602.
You will NOT need a free landing permit. Only the captain of your boat is required to have one of these, and all of our captains have free landing permits. This allows you to possess tunas, billfish, swordfish, amberjacks, groupers, snappers, hinds, cobia, wahoo and dolphin on your boat.
When are the best months for fishing near Venice, Louisiana?
That depends on what you would like to catch. Inshore fishing is spectacular year-round, but here’s an idea of what species are most prominent:
- Speckled trout (from April to November)
- Flounder (from March to November)
- Redfish, drum and sheepshead (year-round)
Offshore fishing is a different story. Here’s what you can expect:
January to March
Massive yellowfin and wahoo move into the area this time of year – it’s the perfect season for catching a monster. Get ready to fish for:
- Grouper
- Amberjack
- Mako Sharks
- Blackfin
- Yellowfin
- Wahoo
April to August
These warmer months bring a greater variety of fish to Louisiana waters. This includes:
- Blue and White Marlin
- Grouper
- Cobia
- Blackfin
- Yellowfin
- Wahoo
- Mangrove Snapper
- Dorado
- King Mackerel
September to December
This is a great time to go after massive yellowfins in the wake of shrimp boats. But you can also catch plenty of other species too, such as:

- Wahoo
- Mangrove snapper
- Marlin
